" is a song written and produced by Jim Steinman and recorded by the singer Welsh Bonnie Tyler in 1983 their fifth studio album Faster Than the Speed \u200b\u200bof Night .
"He has covered several times, and re-written with Michael Kunza for the musical Tanz der Vampire as "Totale Finsternis".

History
"The song remains the most successful song of Tyler, reaching # 1 in the U.S. , Australia, Canada and UK. At its peak, sold 60,000 copies per day and approximately 6 million copies total. won the Variety Club in the UK the best single of 1983 .
"Tyler's career reached new heights with this release and put it as the only Welsh artist to reach number one Billboard lists U.S. .
"According to Meat Loaf , Steinman had given the song, along with" Making Love (Out of Nothing At All) "to Meat Loaf for his album Midnight at the Lost and Found . However, the record company refused to Meat Loaf and Steinman pay separately and wrote songs himself. Steinman's lyrics were given to Bonnie Tyler and Air Supply respectively.
"Music Video Total Eclipse of the Heart was directed by Russell Mulcahy . It was the story of Jim Steinman and was inspired by the film's Futureworld 1976.
"Video Gothic themes and features, shows Bonnie Tyler dressed in white, apparently, a dream or a fantasy about of their students in a boarding school children. Young men go to dance and participate in various school activities such as swim teams, karate , fencing , football and singing in a choir. The video was filmed at the Holloway Sanatorium.
